What's New in SpreadsheetWeb

The September 2026 release brings one of the most significant updates to the SpreadsheetWeb design experience in recent years. The refreshed Designer keeps the application canvas and the settings you need in view at the same time, while Quick Add makes it faster to turn an idea into a configured control. New control appearances, richer upload experiences, and expanded Simple Label options give you more ways to shape an application without building a custom stylesheet.

This release also introduces scheduled updates for applications built from Google Sheets. SpreadsheetWeb can now check a linked workbook on a daily, weekly, or monthly schedule and automatically publish compatible changes, helping applications stay current without relying on someone to remember each update.

A Refreshed Designer That Stays With You

The redesigned Layout & Controls experience brings control settings, appearance choices, and contextual actions together beside the application canvas.

The properties panel can remain pinned on the right while you work, so the page stays visible as you refine a control. When you need more room, the panel can still float over the canvas. Settings are organized into focused groups such as setup, appearance, and behavior, replacing the long lists and temporary dialogs that previously made individual options harder to find.

Appearance options are also more visual. Where supported, you can compare treatments before choosing one instead of selecting from a list of names and waiting to see the result. A guided tour introduces pages, control selection, layout handles, and Quick Add, making the refreshed workspace easier to learn for both new and experienced designers.

Classic View remains available from the Designer toolbar for applications that still rely on the earlier editing workflow.

Add and Style Controls Faster

Quick Add provides a keyboard-friendly path from control selection to placement. Press Ctrl + Space, search for the control you need, move through the choices with the arrow keys, and press Enter to continue.

From there, Quick Add guides you through the decisions that normally follow. You can bind the control to a searchable workbook field, continue without a binding, choose from visual appearance previews, and decide where the control belongs. Input grids can also be configured for spreadsheet editing or row-based forms, with optional column generation.

Controls now offer more coordinated appearances that follow the application’s theme. Depending on the control type, you can choose softer surfaces, crisp outlines, filled treatments, or elevated cards. Grid headers, rows, and borders can work together as a visual system, while containers and tabbed layouts can use the same theme colors and fonts. Existing Classic and legacy appearances remain available when they are the right fit.

Copying and arranging controls is clearer as well. Copy and cut actions now display a status bar with Go to and Cancel options, selected controls include a convenient Duplicate action, and pasted controls are placed more predictably inside containers or after another control.

Richer Uploads and More Expressive Content

File Upload controls now offer four additional appearances: Photo Frame, Gallery, Ticket, and Spotlight. These choices range from a compact attachment experience to a prominent invitation to add files, allowing the upload control to better match its role in the application.

Uploaded images can be opened in a themed, full-size gallery, making it easier for users to review what they submitted. Default upload and gallery wording can also be customized through Runtime Text Resource Overrides.

Simple Labels received a broader set of improvements. Expanded Hero, Metric, and Diagram options make it easier to create introductions, highlight important values, and explain a process visually. Refreshed Carousel and icon editors add finer control over icon scaling, image size, and alignment, while Markdown Pages keep label properties open and simplify the canvas tools for a more focused editing experience.

Together, these additions help applications feel more intentional from the first screen instead of dropping users directly into a form.

Keep Google Sheets Applications Up to Date Automatically

Applications built from Google Sheets can now check their linked workbook and publish compatible updates automatically.

In a Google Sheets application’s settings, expand More options and configure Google Sheets automatic updates. Checks can run daily, weekly, or monthly. SpreadsheetWeb publishes a new version only when the source sheet’s modification date has changed and the updated workbook remains compatible with the existing application.

This means an untouched sheet does not create an unnecessary application version, and a breaking workbook change is not published automatically. Existing work-in-progress edits remain protected, and repeated failures pause the schedule rather than allowing the same unsuccessful update to continue indefinitely.

You can configure email notifications for successful runs, failed runs, or both. The update history records each check, its outcome, and a message, and also shows when the next run is due. Teams can update data or formulas in the source sheet while SpreadsheetWeb handles the routine publishing step on schedule.

The workbook compatibility checker now supports Google Sheets as well as Excel, helping identify incompatible changes before a workbook is replaced manually.

Additional Improvements

The September release also includes several smaller improvements across Hub, calculations, and printing:

The icon library now includes more choices across Light, Regular, Solid, Duotone, and Brands styles where available.
Print processes support images in repeating documents, and High Quality PDF is available directly among the print-mode options.
Excel and Google Sheets calculation compatibility has been improved across text, date and time, and financial formulas, including payment and interest calculations, value conversion, and workbook loading.
Phone-number verification has a dedicated dialog, improved country-code support, and clearer confirmation when adding or removing a verified number.
Google Sheets workbook downloads use a more compact representation while preserving the content required by applications.

The release also contains fixes for dynamic output grids, form-based calculations, dependent dropdowns, data imports, workbook update dialogs, two-factor authentication setup, PDF printing recovery, and analytics date filtering across time zones.
