Monday.com stands out as a leading work operating system that empowers teams to visually and intuitively manage projects, tasks and workflows. Coordinating a marketing campaign, tracking software development progress, or overseeing customer relationships, Monday.com offers a customizable platform to meet diverse business needs.
However, for organizations heavily reliant on calculations and data through Excel spreadsheets integrating these functionalities into Monday.com has posed a challenge. While Monday.com excels in task management and collaboration it lacks the capacity to handle spreadsheet calculations natively within the platform.
The Complexity of Calculations in Monday.com
The versatility of Monday.com stands out as one of its features. However, when it comes to incorporating calculations similar to those found in Excel spreadsheets users often encounter obstacles. Tasks that involve formulas, extensive data manipulation or complex calculations usually necessitate tools prompting teams to switch between platforms. This back and forth can disrupt workflows and hinder efficiency.
In the past, it was possible to integrate Legacy SpreadsheetWeb applications into Monday.com, providing users with a solution. Add SpreadsheetWeb Hub App to a Monday.com Board
Choose Your Board: Go to the Monday.com board where you want to add your SpreadsheetWeb Hub app.
This could be a project board, task list, or any other area where you need to do some calculations. Make sure you know which columns in your board should be mapped to the Excel file and the corresponding SpreadsheetWeb application. Select your SpreadsheetWeb Hub workspace, application, related named ranges, board you want to use, columns you want to show the results, and the direction, click on Add Mapping, then Save Mapping.
In this example, there are three input columns: input1, input2, and input3. There is a single output, which is generated by the SpreadsheetWeb application. The Excel file underlying the SpreadsheetWeb application also contains three inputs and one output. The formula in the output cell simply sums the three input values. This represents a basic calculation to illustrate the application's functionality. However, real-world scenarios involve more complex Excel formulas with multiple layers of dependencies, as well as numerous inputs and outputs.Add a New View: On the Main Table tab of your chosen board, click the plus button (+) and select “Add View.” This will open a menu where you can explore additional views and integrations.
The inputs are pre-populated in the columns labeled Input 1, Input 2, and Input 3. You can either click on the (+) button after you input the numbers to the related columns and hit the submit button, or click on it without inputting the numbers to the related columns and use the SpreadsheetWeb App’s interface.
When the SpreadsheetWeb application loads, the inputs from the board will automatically populate the corresponding fields in the application. The formulas will be triggered automatically, and the value in the Output cell will be displayed. You can then click the Submit button to copy this value into the mapped column on your board.
Please note that you must perform this action for each row in your board to execute the calculations. The integration operates at the row level only.
With the newest version of SpreadsheetWeb Hub integrating complex Excel-based applications into Monday has become easier than ever before, which offers a strong workflow in addition to the simple state control of tasks and a record of every action taken by the team members. As it is seen through the above steps, this integration can be done directly within Monday and consists of complex calculations and data management tools. With the latest com workflows, you can increase effectiveness and bring efficiency to your system.
